IRENE MIRACLE
Actor/Writer/Director/Producer
This versatile, award winning actress goes by her real name, "Miracle," a French Arcadian line that went west with the covered wagons. Her ancestors also include Scots-Irish, Russian, and Osage, the original inhabitants of Oklahoma -- where Irene was born in the 1950s. Her formative years were influenced by her mother, Klara Anne, of Osage heritage, who was one of the leaders of the ‘Head Start’ program a civil rights activist in tribal towns throughout the US.
IRENE began her filmmaking career as an actress, winning a Golden Globe in 1978 for her breakout performance in the classic film, Midnight Express. Over the years she has also supported herself acting in film, television and theater, and behind the camera as a designer -- of clothing, furniture and interiors. She is also an avowed rescuer and trainer of dogs. Filmmaking remains her greatest passion, however -- with a focus now on writing, directing and producing.
Her efforts to make Changeling have caused Irene to form strong ties with members of the Abenaki tribe, such as her co-producer Fred Wiseman. The Abenaki have until recently been denied recognition by the U.S. government. Irene views it as essential that these “people of the dawn,” (as their ancestors called themselves) be accorded their true place in the firmament of our shared American history.
